Three varieties were produced by the U.S. Mint within the mid to late 1800s. We are offering the pre-Civil War Type 1 variety, with years dating between 1849-1854. This coin is an immediate result of the California Gold Rush, and is the smallest regular issue gold dollar coin at just 13 mm in diameter. The Type One Gold Dollar used to be struck on the Philadelphia, Dahlonega, New Orleans, and San Francisco mints. These coins are should haves for gold collectors.
